Hello!
I was wondering if anyone could offer me some interviewing tips. I am interviewing for an internship at a small pr/marketing/advertising agency in phoenix, az and from their website, i can tell they want someone outside the box, spunky, creative, funny, etc. I was wondering if you had any advice on what to do. Should I just go in and do the standard boring interview or spice it up some how? any help appreciated!

Another ad, but this one, I'm not as proud of. I honestly didn't spend a whole lot of time on it. I really liked the IDEA for it. And just to let you know, I HAD to sell THIS car to parents as their teens first car, and had to compare the car to the parents first car. When the original sketch was shown to the team who had written the Creative Brief, they were mad that I didn't include anything about the parents car, so I stuck it in the body copy. They were also mad that I drew the picture, instead of doing it on the computer. Honestly? I do a lot better with colored pencils lol. When you can't run your own photo shoot, sometimes drawing is the best way to go.

This was also already handed in.

This is an ad I already handed in for my Advertising and Promotional design class. I did the graphics on my own (except for the background, which was made using Photoshop brushes). The font I used is extremely similar to the font from the book cover.

I made this advertisement for my Advertising and Promotional Design class. I showed it to a few friends, who really liked it, and I recieved a decent grade from my professor. However, when the class filled out review sheets in class, my ad wasn't recieved very well. I wouldn't say that it was torn apart...because very few people actually bothered to comment on it at all. And hey, I understand, sort of, that they didn't like the ad. First of all, it was a crappy grayscale printout, and not even in color. But still, I didn't think it was that HORRIBLE that it was beyond repair.

So, I am asking you for your opinion, especially regarding:
1. Whether or not you know what product the ad is advertising (give it a guess at least).
2. What you think the message of the ad is.
3. What I can do to make it clearer.

Name: Dawn (or Dawn Violet)

School: Southern Connecticut State University

Major and/or Concentration: Communication, Advertising and Promotions

Names of current (relevant) courses: Advertising and Promotional Design, Communication Research, Intro to Public Relations

Expected graduation date: December 2006

What you like about advertising: I like the creative aspect of advertising. I love playing with Photoshop and designing ads. I like to try to be unique and think out of the box, and Communication definitly requires that sort of thinking.

What don't you like about advertising: Its competitive, and I'm not a cut-throat person! There are some people you just don't want to work with, or products that you'd rather not advertise. Which is why I want to work with non-profit organizations. They have their own politics, but you usually find good people to work with.

Future career plans: I want to go into web design. (also, see above answer :o)

Current job: none in advertising, I work with children right now

Current internship (if any): I am interning at Mary Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church. Over the summer I design and created their website. I'm not their "webmaster" and update the site. I'm trying to get more involved in other communication aspects of the church. Visit their website at www.mtm-umc.org I'm also working with the Catholic Campus Ministry at SCSU. I don't have their website up yet because we don't know how to access the school's server!
