Hello, and welcome to Ad_Students! A place for students and followers of advertising to discuss popular and original advertising work. I do not ban professionals from joining! If you would like to come and give advice, all advice is appreciated!
I started this community out of frustration for the lack of available feedback for my various projects. I enjoy recieving feedback, and giving feedback as well. I think its important to be able to accept criticism, and to not be afraid to give criticism.
I've gotten some words of advice from professors that might help:
1. "Take nothing personal. Nothing here is ever personal."
2. "You have to separate yourself from your work."
3. "Just because they hate your ad, doesn't mean they hate YOU."
If you choose to join the community, please make a post to introduce yourself. If you'd like, you may give any or all of the following information. Or tell us whatever you'd like us to know!
Name:

Current Degrees (if any):
Major and/or Concentration:
Names of current (relevant) courses:

What you like about advertising:
Future career plans:

If you are requesting feedback, please post with the Subject: Request for Feedback
You can post anything relevant to Advertising such as:
A new ad you found on the internet
A reaction/critique of a tv commerical or magazine ad
Asking for advice regarding advertising clubs
Informing people about upcoming advertising workshops or conventions
Telling about your experience at an advertising workshop or convention
Telling about an interesting speaker at your school
Sharing a story about a lesson in advertising
Personal advertising advice
Requests for adivice regarding print ads (copy and graphics), radio ads, television ads, or any other types of ads (there are too many to list)
While you have to have a tough skin in advertising, I ask that you not be cruel to others, and offer only CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. It can be negative, or positive. Please note, people need NEGATIVE feedback. My ego loves to hear "Oh, thats great! Good job!" Until I get my grade back and I find out, it wasn't so great. So be honest! The truth can hurt, but not hearing it can be worse. And you wont help anyone by telling them that everything they do is great...especially if it SUCKS. But, unless you know that the person will not be insulted by you saying "wow, that really sucks" you should try to be more polite.
Examples of comments that are not constructive:
"good job!"
"I don't like it"
"this sucks"
"cool!"
Examples of comments that are constructive:
"I don't think that the font matches the tone of your ad"
"That headline could be taken as offensive, maybe you should change it to this..."
"I really like your color choices, they make the ad pop."
"The font is difficult to read"
"I think the ad would benefit by having an image of the product"
